The rich hues of red, orange, and gold adorn the trees, and the crisp air invites us to shift with the seasons we're experiencing here in New Zealand.

To celebrate, we’re excited to share with you a recipe for healthy Apple Donuts! These delightful donuts are perfect for enjoying with loved ones as you gather to celebrate. Plus, they are a treat for the eyes as you can have fun decorating them as you please. Enjoy!

Ingredients - Makes 10-15 donuts

  • 3 Apples, cored
  • 85g cacao butter
  • 55g cacao powder
  • 20g maple syrup

Equipment: Apple corer

Directions

Preparing The Chocolate:
Heat a small pot of water. Place a bowl on top once the water is boiling with the cacao butter until melted. Once melted, remove from heat and mix in cacao powder and maple syrup.

Preparing apples:
Using an apple corer, puncture the top of the apple and remove the core.

Preparing apple donuts:
Simply dip your cored apples with the desired amount of chocolate coating (we dipped them fully!), and add your desired toppings – pop in the fridge for a few minutes to allow the chocolate to fully set.

Place on a sharing platter to share with your friends and family at your next gathering.

Elevated topping suggestions:

  • Tahini drizzle with a pinch of salt
  • Freeze-dried raspberries and toasted pistachios
  • Freeze-dried mandarins and desiccated coconut
  • Almond butter with shaved almonds
  • Fresh berries with puffed amaranth/millet
