The Silent Disruptor

Breathing creates the rhythm of life, the subtle hum behind every moment, connecting us to our essential being.

My name is Damian Chaparro, Aro Ha co-founder and devoted breathwork facilitator, deeply immersed in the transformational world of conscious breathing. Dysfunctional breathing plays a substantial, common, and yet often overlooked role in our physical and mental well-being.  This silent disruptor manifests as irregular, shallow, or rapid breaths and may lead to a host of health complications, impacting your quality of life.

Dysfunctional breathing can elicit a stress response, releasing a surge of stress hormones like cortisol, propelling our bodies into a state of hyper-alertness and anxiety. This erratic breathing pattern can escalate existing health conditions such as asthma, respiratory issues, and heart ailments. Moreover, it muddles our cognitive functions, contributing to fatigue, decreased concentration, and a general sense of unease.

The Physiology

Understanding the physiology behind dysfunctional breathing is crucial. When we breathe shallowly, we fail to engage our diaphragm fully, causing a reduction in lung expansion and, consequently, lower oxygen intake. This lack of oxygen triggers a survival response, altering our bodily functions and mind, and leading to prolonged stress and tension.
